In his weekly radio address, President Bush said, “This year Congress and I have addressed many key priorities of the American people and we’re making great progress. …Our achievements so far this year show how much can be done when we come together to do what is right for the American people. When Congress returns in September, I will continue to work with the Republicans and Democrats to build on this good progress for all Americans.”

In his weekly radio address, President Bush said, “In the weeks ahead, the Senate will have an opportunity to rise above partisanship. I’ve spoken to Senate Majority Leader Frist and Minority Leader Reid, as well as Chairman and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee, Senators Specter and Leahy. These senators share my goal of an orderly and dignified confirmation process, and it is important that Judge Roberts be confirmed before the Court reconvenes on October the 3rd.”

Also, my staff has talked with more than 60 members of the United States Senate. Members of the Senate are receiving a full opportunity to provide their opinions and recommendations, and I appreciate their advice.”

In his weekly radio address, President Bush said, “On the day of the London attacks, every world leader at the G8 summit stood with Prime Minister Blair as he said: ‘Our determination to defend our values and our way of life is greater than their determination to cause death and destruction to innocent people.’ The free world is united in its resolve: We will never yield to terrorists and murderers. In the face of such adversaries, there is only one course of action: We will continue to take the fight to the enemy, and we will fight until the enemy is defeated.”

The Fourth of July is a day to be proud of our heritage as freedom’s home and defender. It is a day to be confident in the future, because the spirit of our founders still shapes the conscience of our country. Above all, it is a day to give thanks to God for His many blessings on America, and for the privilege to call ourselves citizens of this special land.
